What is swaddling?
Simply put, swaddling is the practice of gently wrapping baby securely in a receiving baby blanket with only their head peeking out. Swaddling is safe for newborns as their body is safely snug inside the swaddle and makes baby feels like he/she is still inside the womb.
What blanket is best for swaddling?
Light weight, and breathable material either a bamboo swaddling blanket or cotton swaddle blanket works best for swaddling.
Do babies sleep better when swaddled?
Swaddling is thought to help calm a newborn baby and improve sleep. Most babies will sleep more soundly when swaddled than left with their arms out. It also helps reduce the risk of moro reflex which can startle a newborn and wake them up.
What do you wear under a swaddle?
For newborns, swaddling in a lightweight cotton muslin blanket or a bamboo swaddle blanket should be enough, but always feel your baby’s skin to check the temperature. Baby can wear a lightweight short-sleeved onesie under the swaddle blanket when the temperature in the room really drops, but make sure baby does not overheat as babies cannot regulate their body temperatures like adults can.
How many swaddle blankets does a newborn need?
There is no magic number to exactly how many baby swaddle wraps or baby swaddle cloths you need, but you need plenty. Swaddle blankets can be used for more than just swaddling your baby and can serve as baby cloths, coverups when breastfeeding, and so much more.
